02/03/2009
Greensboro, NC - A resident helped put out a fire in his own kitchen this Tuesday afternoon and escaped without injury.

Greensboro firefighters were called to 2606 Textile Drive at 2:06 p.m. Tuesday. Fire officials said the accidental blaze started in the kitchen while the resident was cooking.

Firefighters reported seeing light smoke when they arrived at the scene, but the resident used a fire extinguisher to control the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials estimated damage to the one-story home at about $10,000.
